Hospice By The Bay is a nonprofit organization and a leading provider of hospice care, palliative care, and grief counseling for communities in the San Francisco Bay region. Founded in 1975 in Marin County as the first hospice established in California, today Hospice By The Bay is an extensive network of professional caregivers and health care experts, whose mission is to provide medical support, emotional support, dignity, and independence for people coping with the loss of a loved one and those with end-of-life health care needs. Serving people of all ages, regardless of socioeconomic status, the team at Hospice By The Bay includes medical doctors, nurses, home health aides, spiritual counselors, and therapists. The charity is licensed by the state of California, certified by Medicare and Medi-Cal, and fully accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program. In 2011, Hospice By The Bay cared for nearly 2,100 terminally ill patients, 790 individuals in need of emotional support, 53 children and teens, and over 7,300 family members.
